DTE faces looming storm on its political spending amid outage outrage

Lansing — DTE Energy, the powerful utility that provides electricity in southeast Michigan, is facing mounting pressure this spring to disclose more details of its political efforts after spending at least $30 million over the last decade to influence the public and policymakers. The calls for additional information about lobbyist spending and corporate expenditures to politically focused nonprofits are coming from Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office and a group of the Detroit-based utility’s shareholders.
